About Entangled

Your data and your attention are yours to sell. Right now they're being stolen, legally, with the permission buried in endless terms and conditions. We build software that doesn't take either one.

Who we are

Entangled Labs LLC is a small software company in Pennsylvania.

We think technology should bring life back into balance, not tip it further. So we build and combine services into interfaces that are intuitive and meaningful, with no ads, no data selling, and no attention tricks. Some of them are free and open source, like Prism. Some will cost money, and those will show the price up front. The first one is Prism, a media player that puts your streaming services in one place and covers ads with nature and quiet.

Why Entangled exists

Most software today is paid for by someone other than the person using it. When that happens, the software works for whoever pays: the advertiser, the data broker, the platform. It shows you what keeps you there, not what you came for.

We started Entangled to make the other kind. Software you pay for, or that is free with no catch, that answers only to you. It should do its job, tell you how it works, and then get out of the way.

No black boxes

We only build algorithms you can see.

A lot of what you see online is picked by an algorithm you can't see. It decides what shows up first, what gets buried, and what keeps you scrolling. You're never told why.

The harm

Hidden rankings are tuned to keep you on the app, not to help you. They can nudge what you watch, buy, and believe, and you never find out why.

What we do instead

Every algorithm we build is one you can see. When our software picks or orders something for you, it tells you how, in plain words. The code is open for anyone to check.

Why it matters to us

Your attention is yours. An algorithm you can't see is one more way to take it. If we can't explain how something works, we don't ship it.

For example, Prism's Most read row counts daily page views on Wikipedia. That's the whole recipe, and Prism says so right on the screen.

Open source

Prism is open source under the GPLv3-or-later license, and so are its adapters. You can read the code, build it yourself, and check that it does what this site says it does. The code is on GitHub, along with the issue tracker and the build steps.

Open source is how we keep ourselves honest. A promise about privacy is easy to make. Code anyone can read is harder to break.

Our promises to you

Five promises, and what each one means in practice.

No ads.
Not in our apps, not on our sites. We don't sell space to anyone, and we don't take money to put something in front of you. That includes sponsored rows and recommendations someone paid for.
No data theft.
When we hold your data, it's yours. We store it securely, use it only to run the product, and you can export it or delete it. Most of what we make holds nothing at all. Prism keeps everything on your device.
No data mining.
We never sell your data, build a profile of you, or use it for ads. We don't share it with partners, because we don't have any. We collect only what a feature needs, say so on the page, and delete it when it's no longer needed.
No attention mining.
No tracking cookies, no popups, no countdowns, no endless scrolling. Nothing designed to manipulate you or hook you with a dopamine hit. When our software picks or orders something for you, it tells you how, in plain words, right where you see it.
No endless subscriptions.
Free stays free. If we go down, our software is still out there: the code is open, and nobody can take it back. If something costs money, you see the price up front and can stop paying anytime. Lock-in is out. Support for Entangled is one-time only, never a subscription.
