Here's where the information on Watch comes from, and who made the pictures and sounds that cover the ads. Prism doesn't send any of this anywhere. Each source is contacted directly from your device.

Ratings, titles, pictures, genres, cast, episode lists and air dates. They power the ratings on every card, Search everywhere, Browse, The Binge, and the New episodes and New movies rows. Prism reads them on this device using your own TMDB key.

Which of your services carry each title, and whether it's included, with ads, or to rent or buy. JustWatch provides this through TMDB.

Wikipedia and Wikidata

The Most read about this week row counts how often each title's Wikipedia article is read each day. Wikidata helps match each article to the right title, and supplies the awards and release dates in two other rows.

Wikidata is CC0. wikipedia.org and wikidata.org

Nature photos

Every photo Prism puts over an ad comes from Wikimedia Commons and is public domain or CC0, so it can ship in free software with no strings. No credit is required. We give it anyway. The collection has 3,996 photos from these contributors:

  • National Park Service. 1,524 photos.
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. 1,027 photos.
  • Individual photographers, painters, and other contributors. 852 photos.
  • NASA, ESA, and the space telescope teams. 403 photos.
  • U.S. Forest Service. 182 photos.
  • Bureau of Land Management. 8 photos.

The source page, author, and license of every photo are recorded in the pool manifest in the Prism repo.

Soundscapes

Twelve field recordings that Prism for Windows can play during a music service's ad breaks. All are CC0 from Freesound. Thanks to the recordists:

Source reliability lists

The extension's optional start page can mark links to news sites with their standing on three public lists. They're off by default, nothing is hidden, and an unlisted site is not a bad one.

  • Wikipedia's Perennial Sources table, CC BY-SA 4.0. Each mark links to the discussion behind it.
  • Iffy Index from Media Bias/Fact Check, CC BY 4.0.
  • Steven Black's hosts list, MIT license.
